The Times in our Lives

How one will approach life in the upcoming year, as well as one’s attitude and disposition will be seen in the Ascendant of the Solar Return chart.  If one’s Solar Return Ascendant is in the sign of Pisces, one might meet the upcoming months with greater empathy & sensitivity.

If one looks at the Sun in the Solar Return chart, it will indeed remain in the degree and sign of the natal chart, however it will likely be in a different house, a different arena of life.  Its location indicates the area of focus for the year, where one wishes to stand out.  If the Sun appears in the 4th house of the Solar Return chart, family may be the centerpiece of the year.  Or, the year may be one of exploration of one’s deep inner self.

The sign of the Solar Return Moon addresses how and what emotions you will express in the year.  With the Moon in the sign of Aries, you will likely desire independence & freedom to move as you wish.  Your emotional investment for the year will be in “You”, rather than in the needs of others.

The Solar Return chart can be interpreted in a similar manner as one would the natal chart, if one understands that the influences reflected in the chart are passing ones rather than the permanent imprints delineated in the natal chart.

As Paul Westran wrote recently, “Astrology does not describe events in nature, it describes events in consciousness.” ¹   Exploring your Solar Return chart each year can be both enlightening & useful as it can help you navigate the year with greater ease & understanding.
